JONESBORO, Ark. (4/26/25) – Powered by clutch hitting from Jake Henry Williams, Arkansas State baseball (21-21, 10-10 SBC) rallied late to claim a 6-5 victory over Georgia State (24-20, 9-11 SBC) on Saturday night at Tomlinson Stadium-Slayton Family Field.
Tyler Weimer made his second career start, surrendering one earned run on two hits and two walks while striking out three over 3.2 innings pitched. Seven Red Wolves took the mound and combined for 10 hits and five earned runs in the contest.
A-State matched the Panthers’ hit total, tallying two doubles and two home runs to score six. Williams was the player of the night, accounting for both home runs and four RBIs in a 2-for-3 performance.
Cason Campbell (3-for-4) led the team with three hits and recorded an RBI while Jeremiah Cabuyaban also posted two hits in three at-bats.
Georgia State scored the lone run over the first four innings of action, homering to left center to claim a 1-0 advantage.
Action picked up in the bottom of the fifth when Patrick Engskov singled to third base and advanced to second on a throwing error. Wil French advanced to third on the hit and crossed the plate uncontested to tie the game at one run apiece.
The Panthers countered with two home runs and an RBI-single in the next frame, but Brett Foss recorded a critical bases-loaded strikeout to keep the score at 4-2. The Scarlet and Black nullified the response with a two-run homer from Williams in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game once again.
The tie lasted through the seventh, but broke in the bottom of the eighth when Williams launched his second two-run homer of the evening over the wall in right center. Chase Richter entered the contest and faced a bases-loaded situation in the ninth, but only one run would score for the opposition before a flyout ended the game.
The Red Wolves clinched their fourth consecutive series victory at Tomlinson Stadium and move back to .500 in conference play for the first time since March 21. Cooper Garrison (2-2) earned the win and Richter (7) claimed the save while Tysen Benford (1-1) took the loss.
