SAN MARCOS, Texas (3/22/25) – Arkansas State baseball dropped a back-and-forth affair to Texas State, falling 5-4 Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Ballpark.

A-State (10-12, 2-3 SBC) out-hit the Bobcats (10-12, 2-3) 12-7, led by three hits each from Wil French (3-for-5) and Patrick Engskov (3-for-4). Engskov accounted for two of the Red Wolves’ runs scored, while French reached as the tying run with a single in the ninth.

Cross Jumper and Kaden Amundson also recorded multi-hit outings with two apiece. Cason Tollet drove in a pair of runs, with he and Amundson tallying doubles.

Texas State reliever Matthew Tippie (1-0) was credited with the win, with Bryson Dudley earning the save. Kole Turner (1-1) took the loss for A-State, tossing the final two frames.

Texas State scored first on a two-run inside-the-park home run by Caden Baker in the bottom of the second, but Tollett’s two-run double the next half-inning knotted up the score at 2-all.

Dawson Park gave TXST the 3-2 lead with a solo home run in the third, and then A-State once again answered with a sacrifice fly by Daedrick Cail.

A bases-loaded walk in the seventh inning made it 4-3 Bobcats, but a balk in the eighth allowed Engskov to score from third and even the score at 4-4. Texas State plated the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth when Ryne Farber scored on a wild pitch.

A-State looks to avoid the series sweep Sunday in San Marcos, with first pitch slated for 1 p.m. on ESPN+ and 95.3 The Ticket Radio Network.
