Box Score OXFORD, Miss. (2/18/25) – Arkansas State baseball (1-3, 0-0 SBC) mounted a furious rally in the ninth inning versus Ole Miss (3-1, 0-0 SEC), but a walk-off home run in the 10th inning sealed a 4-2 defeat on Tuesday afternoon at Swayze Field.
Jelle van der Lelie made his 12th career start and his first in 2025, surrendering one earned run on one hit and four walks while striking out two over 3.0 innings pitched. On the flip side, Cason Tollett led the bats with a 3-for-5 performance, accounting for all but one hit for the Scarlet and Black.
After both sides combined for two hits and three walks over the first three innings, the Rebels began to gain momentum after drawing two walks to open the bottom of the fourth. A 4-6-3 double play put A-State in position to escape the early jam, but the runner at third stole home to break the stalemate.
The Red Wolves’ first scoring opportunity came in the top of the sixth after loading the bases with two outs. Carson Keithley fired a line drive towards left field, but it went directly to third base for the final out of the frame.
Ole Miss had another chance in the seventh after placing runners at first and third with no outs. Once again, a 4-6-3 double play would be turned, but a run crossed the plate during the action and made the score 2-0.
The Scarlet and Black had their best scoring opportunity in the top of the ninth after a fielding error, walk, and hit-by-pitch resulted in a bases loaded situation with no outs. Kaden Amundson knocked in the first run after reaching on a fielder’s choice, and Drake Anderson beat the tag at home to tie the game on a sacrifice fly, tying the contest at 2-2.
A-State did not record a hit in the top frame and the Rebels could not mount a response in the bottom as the contest went into extra innings.
After going down in order in the top of the 10th, the Scarlet and Black retired two of the first three batters in the bottom frame before surrendering a walk-off two-run homer to left center. Gunnar Dennis (1-0) earned the win while Andrew Allen (0-1) received the loss.
