JONESBORO, Ark. (2/23/25) – Arkansas State baseball (1-4, 0-0 SBC) claimed an early lead before Eastern Illinois responded with seven unanswered runs to seal a 7-1 defeat on Sunday afternoon at Tomlinson Stadium-Slayton Family Field.
Collin Maloney (0-1) made his second start of the season, surrendering two earned runs on three hits while striking out five batters over 5.2 innings pitched. Eight Red Wolves took the mound in the contest, combining for eight strikeouts against the Panthers.
At the plate, Cross Jumper recorded both hits and the only run for A-State, scoring on a throwing error following a flyout in the third inning.
Eastern Illinois tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fifth after landing an RBI-single in centerfield. Two frames later, the Panthers loaded the bases and added two more with another single to the same area.
The Panthers delivered the final blow with a four-run seventh inning, scoring one on a one-out single up the middle before sending a three-run double to the wall in right-center to make the score 7-1.
Jumper landed his second knock in the bottom of the eighth, but it would not be enough as the Red Wolves fell by six runs. Tyler Conklin (1-1) earned the win while Maloney took the loss.

A-State resumes and concludes a three-game series against Eastern Illinois with a doubleheader on Monday, Feb. 24, beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Slayton Family Field at Tomlinson Stadium. Listeners can find the game on 95.3 The Ticket Radio Network, with coverage beginning 15 minutes prior to first pitch.
The second matchup will begin 30-45 minutes following the conclusion of Game 1.
