PHOENIX, Ariz. (3/11/25) – Darkness suspended second-round play Tuesday at the Grand Canyon Invitational with the Arkansas State men’s golf team ending the day sixth among 18 teams in the field.
A-State was among 10 teams to complete 36 holes on the day turning in a total of 8-over par 576 on the par-71 GCU Golf Course. GCU leads the tournament at 7-under par 561 with New Mexico in second at 1-under par 567. Pacific finished 36 holes at 2-over par while Drake (+3) and UC Riverside (+6) have played 13-17 holes of the second round with play suspended.
Thomas Schmidt paced the Red Wolves individually with a 36-hole total of 1-under par 141 to tie for ninth. Following a 3-over par 74 in the first round, Schmidt carded six birdies against two bogeys for a 4-under par 67 in the second round. Tommaso Zorzetto of GCU and Tegan Andrews of Cal State Fullerton lead the field of 99 players at 4-under par 138.
Jack Maxey had the low round in the first round for A-State at 4-under 67 and followed with a 5-over 76 to stand tied for 15th with a two-round total of 1-over par 143. Jake Wallis (74-70) is tied for 24th, Milan Reed (76-73) is tied for 59th and Jake Lile (75-76) is tied for 76th to round out the players counting toward the team total for A-State. Playing as an individual, Cole Kirby (70-75) is tied for 31st at 3-over par 145.
The second round will resume Wednesday morning with the third round beginning immediately after the conclusion of the second round. Live scoring is available on Golf Genius.
