JONESBORO, Ark. (4/13/25) – Following six scoreless innings to open the series finale, Arkansas State baseball (16-19, 7-8 SBC) scored four runs in the seventh en route to a 5-2 victory over South Alabama (15-19, 5-10 SBC) on Sunday afternoon at Tomlinson Stadium.
Jack Hibbard made his ninth start of the season, surrendering one earned run on six hits and two walks while striking out one over 5.0 innings pitched. Three Red Wolves entered in relief, allowing four hits and two walks paired with three strikeouts over 4.0 innings.
Ashton Quiller led the bats with a 3-for-5 (.600) performance while Wil French (2-for-3) and Kaden Amundson (2-for-4) joined the multi-hit club. Patrick Engskov led the team with two RBIs, including the go-ahead runs in the bottom of the seventh.
The Jaguars scored first on an RBI-single up the middle, and added the second run on an error at second base in the seventh. The Scarlet and Black tallied five hits and a walk over that span, but no runs would cross as the score stood at 2-0.
With two outs and no runners on in the bottom of the seventh, Amundson reached on a single while Quiller followed with a double. Back-to-back walks cut the deficit in half before Tollett’s RBI-single tied the game.
In the next at-bat, Engskov fired a line drive down the left-field line for a double and pushed A-State ahead 4-2. Quiller added to the lead with an RBI-single in the eighth, and Cooper Garrison shut the door on a comeback bid in the ninth.
It was the Red Wolves’ first victory when trailing after the sixth inning this season. Chase Richter (3-2) earned the win and Garrison (1) claimed the save while Dalton Brooks (1-1) took the loss.
