JONESBORO, Ark. (2/8/25) – Arkansas State women’s basketball (15-8, 11-1 SBC) fell for the first time 41 days after a late comeback bid fell short, falling to Bowling Green (12-11, 5-6 MAC) 75-73 on Saturday afternoon at First National Bank Arena.
Crislyn Rose finished with 29 points on 12-of-19 (63.2 percent) shooting from the floor and 2-of-4 (50 percent) shooting from three-point range. Anna Griffin led the team with six while Wynter Rogers tied a career high in assists at six.
As a team, the Red Wolves shot 27-for-71 (38.0 percent) from the field and 11-for-39 (28.2 percent) from three-point range.
A-State jumped out to an early 15-5 lead behind five triples from four players, but the Falcons responded by scoring 10 of the next 13 points. Kennedie Montue (3) and Shaunae Brown (2) combined for five of seven three-pointers in the opening period as the lead stood at 25-20.
The Falcons moved ahead in the contest with 7:16 to go in the second, taking a 28-25 lead. It was the first time A-State trailed since the 5:22 mark of the third quarter against Troy on Jan. 30.
Layups from Rose and Kyanna Morgan paired with a free throw from Mimi McCollister put the Scarlet and Black ahead by three, but Bowling Green ended the first half with a 9-0 run and a 38-32 advantage. A-State shot 12-for-36 (33.3 percent) from the floor and 7-for-24 (29.2 percent) from deep in the first two quarters.
The Red Wolves fell behind by double digits for the first time since Jan. 11 at ULM after the Falcons took a 45-35 lead with 7:03 in the third. Both teams exchanged blows the rest of the way, but a triple from Shannon made it a seven-point ballgame entering the fourth quarter.
Trailing by 11 at the 6:58 mark in the fourth, Rose provided a spark by scoring 12 of the next 16 points before a triple from Shaunae Brown and a free throw from Rogers cut the deficit to one point. Back-to-back jumpers from Rose put A-State back in front for the first time since the second quarter, leading 70-68 with 1:21 to go.
Bowling Green battled back with a 6-0 run of their own inside the final minute, but a three-pointer from Griffin closed the gap back to one as the Scarlet and Black trailed 74-73. After surrendering one-of-two from the charity stripe, the Red Wolves had one last chance, but Rose’s last-second layup would not fall as the 11-game winning streak reached its conclusion.
