JONESBORO, Ark. (3/11/25) – With the score tied in the bottom of the eighth, Cross Jumper delivered two go-ahead runs on a single to propel Arkansas State baseball (7-9, 0-0 SBC) to a 4-2 victory over Memphis (9-7, 0-0 American) on Tuesday night at Tomlinson Stadium-Slayton Family Field.
Jelle van der Lelie made his second start of the season, surrendering one earned run on three hits while striking out four over 3.0 innings pitched. The Red Wolves’ pitching staff surrendered two runs (one earned) total while striking out 11 batters in the contest.
At the plate, Jumper finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs while Ashton Quiller (2), Wil French (2), and Kaden Amundson (2) also had multi-hit performances. Quiller recorded his fourth triple in four games, which stands alone as a program record.
The triple occurred during the bottom of the second, allowing Raul Torres to reach home as an unearned run to make the score 1-0. The Tigers scored a run in the next frame via a sacrifice fly to centerfield and tied the contest in the third.
Memphis finished with three errors in the contest, resulting in two unearned runs in the first three innings of action. Daedrick Cail crossed the plate on a throwing error at third base in the bottom frame to give A-State a 2-1 advantage.
Four scoreless innings passed before a critical error struck the Red Wolves in the eighth, allowing the Tigers to tie the contest at two runs apiece.
Two runners reached scoring position with two outs in the bottom frame before Jumper fired a line drive through the gap and into centerfield to score both. The Tigers put two on the bags in the ninth, but a strikeout and groundout secured the Red Wolves’ fourth consecutive victory.
