JONESBORO, Ark. (6/18/24) – Arkansas State head volleyball coach Brian Gerwig announced Tuesday a pair of staff updates ahead of the 2024 season.

Gerwig tabbed Jason Gibbs as an assistant coach. Gibbs – who spent last season as an assistant with the Lewis University (Romeoville, Ill.) men’s team – replaces Carlisa May, who is pursuing a career outside of collegiate coaching.

“I am very excited to finally announce the addition of Jason Gibbs to my coaching staff,” Gerwig said. “He is coming over from the men’s side where he was recently an assistant coach for Lewis University. This specific hiring process was very different for me. I was looking for a passionate candidate who added creativity and ownership to our training gym, as well as aspirations to be a head coach someday. Jason has an elite volleyball mind, and our talented defensive corps will be better because of him. Jason will primarily work with our passers and floor defenders. I am very lucky to get to work with Jason early in his career because I know he has a bright future ahead of him!

“I will be forever grateful for Carlisa May and the lasting impact she has made on the Arkansas State volleyball program. I wish her the best of luck as she transitions out of the college coaching world to pursue her passions away from the court.”

Gerwig also announced that third-year assistant Jordan Coomes has been elevated to recruiting coordinator after having served as an assistant on the A-State staff the previous two seasons.

“Jordan has shown over the last two seasons that she is more than capable of handling the role of recruiting coordinator,” Gerwig remarked. “She has been able to build relationships with club directors across the country and identify top talent within the 2025 and 2026 recruiting classes. I greatly appreciate her loyalty and dedication to building the Arkansas State volleyball program! This promotion is well deserved by her, and I know she will continue to find success in her new role.”
