MONROE, La. (5/11/24) – Hannes Fahl won the men’s 800 meters on Saturday to highlight the Arkansas State track and field teams’ final day of competition at the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships.
A-State’s women’s team placed third with 92 points while the men’s squad totaled 90 points to place fifth.
Fahl finished the two laps around the oval in 1:51.39 for gold and added to a silver medal he earned in the men’s 1500 meters earlier in the day (3:52.35).
Rahel Broemmel captured bronze in the women’s 1500 meters, crossing in 4:30.69, with Elizabeth Martin finishing in 4:37.10 to place sixth. Broemmel later nabbed another bronze medal in the women’s 5000 meters with a time of 17:07.15, a race in which Olivia Walter placed sixth to add three more points. Cadence Lapp placed 17th in the event, finishing in 18:25.29.
In the men’s high jump, Colby Eddowes capped his strong weekend with a career-best clearance of 2.13m (6-11.75) to take bronze.
Selase Sampram also took bronze in the women’s discus, hurling a season-best 50.28m (164-11). Michelle Ogbemudia placed 16th with a throw of 42.10m (138-1) and Liya Guy was 17th, tossing 41.96m (137-8).
Cheyenne Melvin earned a bronze medal in the women’s 800 meters, crossing in 2:10.26, ahead of Broemmel in sixth (2:13.48).
Freshman Josh Jones moved up to sixth all-time in the men’s 400-meter hurdles, running a lifetime-best 51.82 to place fourth. In the sprint hurdles, Tyra Nabors finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.89 while Jones was sixth in the 110-meter hurdles, clocking a time of 14.24.
Cash Kunkel notched a fourth-place result in the men’s 5000 meters, running a time of 14:38.47 that stands eighth in program history. Nati Enright tacked on a point with an eighth-place and collegiate-best time of 14:43.46. Rylan Brown placed 26th in the field, clocking a time of 15:56.84.
Menachem Chen threw the discus 55.50m (182-1) to place fourth, with Noa Isaia (50.30m/165-0) and Willem Coertzen (49.33m/161-10) plcing 10th and 11th, respectively.
A-State’s men placed seventh in the 4×100-meter relay, running a season-best 41.44, while the women also ran a season-best 46.42 to place ninth. The Red Wolves combined for a men’s 4×400-meter relay time of 3:24.55 to place 10th.
Matthew Williams placed 13th in the men’s triple jump with a best mark of 13.58m (44-6.75).
