OXFORD, Miss. (4/5/25) – Arkansas State track and field’s Camren Bailey and Menachem Chen moved up in the program’s all-time top 10 of their respective events on Saturday, closing out a strong weekend at the Joe Walker Invite.
A-State athletes accounted for nine season-best marks and nine career-best performances on the day, highlighted by Bailey’s and Chen’s efforts.
Chen was runner-up in the men’s shot put, hurling a career-best 18.01m (59-1.25) to move up to seventh in school history. Colby Eddowes also competed, throwing 12.18m (39-11.5) in a 21st-place result.
Bailey clocked a third-place time of 10.35 in the men’s 100 meters, tying for ninth in program history. He finished ahead of Will Glass (18th, 10.70) and Christopher Burge (26th, 10.92).
Josh Jones (14.20) and Will Glass (14.25) placed second and third in the 110-meter hurdles, with Kenyon Parker following in eighth (14.71). Tyra Nabors was seventh in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing in 14.10.
Jones later ran a season-best 51.86 in the men’s 400-meter hurdles, registering a third-place finish.
In the men’s discus, Noa Isaia led three throwers with a fourth-place finish, throwing a season-best 52.99m (173-10). Chen was sixth (52.08m/170-10) and Cameron Slavin placed 23rd, tossing a season-best 36.69m (120-4).
Liya Guy turned in a pair of strong throwing performances, placing fifth in the discus with a season-best mark of 44.31m (145-4) and 10th in the shot put with a top throw of 12.29m (40-4.0).
Avinash Patel led five runners in the men’s 1500 meters with a fourth-place time of 4:00.30. He finished ahead of Gabe Falting (12th, 4:02.51), Ian Horton (17th, 4:07.45), Aviel Gasko (18th, 4:07.60) and Benny Brenneman (19th, 4:07.65).
In the women’s 1500, Mia Conroy placed ninth with a time of 4:47.49. Abbey Coberly placed 12th with a season-best mark of 4:49.39, while Lizzee Winkler (career-best 4:59.25) and Abigail Tomberlin (season-best 5:00.00) placed 20th and 22nd.
Ashley Guadamuz cleared a collegiate-best 1.65m (5-5.50) in the women’s high jump, placing fifth. In the men’s high jump, Colby Eddowes tied for fifth (1.99m/6-6.25) while Parker (1.89m/6-2.25) and Gavin Schaer (16th, 1.89m/6-2.25) placed 14th and 16th.
Jada Buggs finished seventh in the 400 meters with a time of 56.67, leading four runners. Kneila Watson clocked a career-best 58.10 in a 12th-place finish, while Je’Breiya Chapman (59.65) and Olivia Dixon (59.96) came in 17th and 18th. In the men’s race, Mehki Hoo placed 11th with a career-best 48.44, while Jeremiah Green ran a season-best 50.35 in his 22nd-place finish.
The women’s 100 meters saw a pair of season-best times by Nyla Watson (24th, 12.52) and AJ Allen (27th, 12.63). Keniya Simpson led a quartet with a time of 12.18, placing 16th, while Nyima Williamson was 35th with a mark of 13.80.
In the javelin portion of the heptathlon, Miranda Burgett threw a career-best 34.40m (111-8).
Brandon Williams clocked a career-best 1:52.36 to place sixth in the men’s 800 meters, while Benny Brenneman (2:01.17) placed 30th. Malena Cybak and Sammy Mason ran in the women’s 800, placing ninth (2:17.82) and 11th (2:18.38), respectively.
