JONESBORO, Ark. (2/6/25) – Arkansas State women’s tennis looks to move back into the win column Friday, traveling to Indianapolis, Ind., to take on Big East foe Butler.
First serve for A-State’s (4-3) match against the Bulldogs (0-5) is slated for 4:30 p.m. CT, and the match will be contested at the Indianapolis Racquet Club.
“We are so close to taking that next step in our play,” A-State head coach Sujay Lama said. “We took a huge step in doubles in our last match and need to capitalize on it this week. The tough schedule we’ve played so far has really challenged us to lift our level. We have so much potential and that is what is so exciting about this team.”
Last time out, A-State fought hard in doubles against SEC opponent Mississippi State, but ultimately dropped the point on a set tiebreaker. The Red Wolves earned a point with a straight-set singles win by Lilly Cvanciger in the 4-1 decision.
Three players boast five singles victories this spring for A-State: Loles Carbo Chova (5-0), Anna Grigoreva (5-2) and Carla Muro Castellvi (5-1). In doubles, all three pairs boast three victories each. Hanmare McAslin and Sarah Millard lead the way at 3-1 at the No. 3 spot, while the pairs of Grigoreva/Muro Castellvi and Cvanciger/Abigail Thurmer are 3-4 at Courts 1 and 2.
After facing Butler, A-State returns home for its second home match of the season, hosting Southeast Missouri at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, at Trim Gym.
