JONESBORO, Ark. (4/27/25) – Arkansas State baseball (22-21, 11-10 SBC) tallied 16 hits, including two home runs, to complete the first series sweep of the season in a 13-4 victory over Georgia State (24-21, 9-12 SBC) on Sunday night at Tomlinson Stadium-Slayton Family Field.

Jack Hibbard made his 11th start of the season, surrendering four runs (all earned) on five hits and four walks while striking out five over 3.0 innings pitched. Four Red Wolves entered in relief, combining for two hits and two walks allowed over the final 6.0 innings of action.

Wil French (3-for-4), Cross Jumper (3-for-5), and Patrick Engskov (3-for-5) led the team in hits while French and Jumper led the team in runs scored with three apiece. Engskov batted in a team high four RBIs, bringing three across the plate on his fifth home run of the season.

French has scored 170 runs over four seasons in Jonesboro, and needs four more to break the program record set by Todd Baumgartner from 2008-11.

The Panthers scored first on a home run to left center, claiming a 1-0 advantage in the opening frame. Engskov pushed A-State ahead in the bottom of the inning after sending the three-run round-tripper 353 feet to right field.

Georgia State responded in the second with another solo-shot, but the Red Wolves fired back with a five-run frame. Ashton Quiller added a run on a bunt-single, while French, Jumper, and Campbell rounded out the bottom frame with RBI-knocks.

Jumper also scored on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch, making the score 8-2 after two innings of play.

In the top of the third, Georgia State added two more solo-home runs and cut the deficit to four. However, Campbell struck again and made the score 9-4 in the bottom of the fourth after sending a solo-homer of his own to left center.

Engskov and Campbell batted in their last runs of the evening in the sixth, with the former singling through the left side and the latter reaching on a fielder’s choice. French concluded the scoring in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI-double to right center, making the score 13-4.

Georgia State put one runner on base beyond that point but could not score as the Red Wolves completed their first sweep in conference play since May 18-20, 2023, versus South Alabama. Jelle van der Lelie (3-2) earned the win while Ross Norman (4-6) took the loss.
