JONESBORO, Ark. (3/30/25) – Arkansas State baseball (13-14, 4-5 SBC) used a three-run sixth inning to break away from ULM (12-16, 2-7 SBC) and claim the series in a 5-3 victory on Sunday afternoon at Tomlinson Stadium-Slayton Family Field.
Jack Hibbard (4-2) earned his third quality start in seven tries, surrendering three runs (all earned) on four hits while striking out five over 6.0 innings pitched. Gavin Galy and Chase Richter entered in relief, combining for three strikeouts over 3.0 hitless innings.
Cason Campbell spearheaded the Red Wolves’ attack with the bats, finishing 3-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs. Jake Henry Williams (2-for-4) and Drake Anderson (2-for-4) also had multi-hit performances while Ashton Quiller drove in the only other RBI.
The scoreless tie was broken in the second when Campbell fired a single up the middle to make the score 1-0. With runners on second and third, Quiller put down his nation-leading 10th sacrifice bunt and extended the lead to two runs.
The Warhawks responded in the top of the third with a two-run home run to left field, tying the game at 2-2.
Following the homer, both teams combined for only one hit until the sixth inning. Campbell tallied his second RBI-knock of the day to break the stalemate in the bottom frame, while runners advanced to second and third following a wild pitch.
Quiller reached on a fielder’s choice in the next at-bat, but a throwing error at home allowed Campbell and Anderson to reach home uncontested.
With the score 5-2 in the top of the seventh, ULM chipped away at the lead with a solo home run. However, Galy entered the contest and stalled the Warhawks’ momentum before Richter entered with one out in the eighth and successfully closed the game.
A-State claimed its second consecutive series victory at Tomlinson Stadium, and has won two of the first three conference series for the first time since 2019.
