SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (2/13/22) – Playing a third match in as many days, the Arkansas State women’s tennis team outlasted Missouri State for a 4-3 victory Sunday evening at the Cooper Tennis Complex.
A-State (2-3) cruised to a win in doubles with Thea Rice and Nejla Zukic winning on court one 6-0 for an early advantage. Yasmine Humbert and Sofia Vdovychenko secured the point with a 6-1 victory on court two. The pair of Emily Surcey and Rebecca Brody on court three were leading 5-3 when the doubles point was decided.
Missouri State (0-5) took a 2-1 lead in the match with wins on court five and six, but Rice defeated Mary Houston on court one, 6-4, 6-4 to make even the match at 2-2. Zukic outlasted Alyson Piskulic 6-4, 7-5, on court two to give A-State the 3-2 lead. Vdovychenko then clinched the match for the Red Wolves with a three-set triumph on court four taking the match over Mara Presot 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. The matchup on court three was played out with Surcey coming up just short, 4-6, 6-2, 4-6.
