JONESBORO, Ark. (4/25/25) – Arkansas State track and field kicked off its second-annual Alumni Classic with a bang Friday at the A-State Track and Field Complex, securing 10 event victories on day 1 of the two-day affair.
Michelle Ogbemudia won the women’s hammer throw to start the day, throwing a career-best 55.81m (183-1).
Noa Isaia followed shortly with a first-place finish in the men’s hammer, hurling the implement 66.22m (217-3) to move up to third all-time at A-State in the event. Chris Boyd placed third (48.87m/160-4) and Menachem Chen was fourth (45.60m/149-7) while Cameron Slavin threw a collegiate-best 44.59m (146-4) in a fifth-place result.
Jacob Pyeatt clocked a time of 3:45.80 to win the men’s 1500 meters invitational, a mark that is fifth in program history. Avinash Patel followed behind in second with a career-best 3:52.93, while Aviel Gasko (3:57.42) and Gabe Falting (3:59.59) ran collegiate bests to place fourth and sixth, respectively. Benny Brenneman rounded out the field with a time of 4:07.66, placing ninth.
Camren Bailey also moved up the top-10 lists in the men’s 200 meters, winning with a time of 20.97 that ties for eighth best. Christopher Burge was eighth (21.95), while Kenyon Parker (22.30) and Jeremiah Green (career-best 22.95) placed 11th and 18th.
In the men’s pole vault, Bradley Jelmert was one of four Red Wolves in the top 5, clearing 5.46m (17-11.0) to win the event. Jacob Dorrell cleared an outdoor-best 4.91m (16-1.25) to place third, a height also cleared by fourth- and fifth-place finishers Gavin Schaer and John Carswell.
Matthew Williams claimed the top spot in the men’s long jump, leaping 7.16m (23-6.0).
Five Red Wolves then led the way in the women’s long jump, paced by Kiara Strayhorn, who leapt 5.85m (19-2.25) to win. Madison Holloway’s season-best jump of 5.72m (18-9.25) on her final attempt secured her runner-up finish, while Brandi Echols (career-best 5.67m/18-7.25) placed third. Nyima Williamson followed in fourth (5.41m/17-9.0) and Izzy Daines placed fifth (5.24m/17-2.25).
Daines then won the women’s javelin throw, recording a season-best toss of 43.50m (142-9) on her sixth attempt. Miranda Burgett placed third with a collegiate-best throw of 37.72m (123-9).
Jada Buggs won the women’s 200, running 24.87, while Burgett ran a career-best 25.39 to place third. Hanyla Milligan finished fifth (25.52), followed by Nyla Watson (collegiate-best 25.98) in seventh.
Lizzee Winkler earned the final event crown of the day on the track, winning the women’s steeplechase.
John Harrick earned a runner-up finish in the men’s javelin, throwing a collegiate-best 51.47m (168-10). Brett Jacobs also had a runner-up finish, doing so in the men’s 800-meter invitational with a personal-best time of 1:51.76.
In the women’s 1500 meters invitational section, Abbey Coberly led the way with a third-place finish, running a career-best 4:36.88. Maddie Haldiman followed in fourth with a collegiate-best 4:38.54, while Malena Cybak was fifth, crossing in a season-best 4:41.94. Mia Conroy placed seventh (4:50.78) while Hannah McLaughlin (4:57.47) and Nika Gividen (4:57.57) placed 11th and 12th.
The Alumni Classic continues Saturday, with competition commencing at 9:30 a.m. on the track, and the first field event slated for a 10:30 a.m. start. A-State will honor its seniors at 11:50 a.m., with the national anthem to follow at 12:05 p.m. before more track events.
