    JONESBORO, Ark. (5/12/24) – Arkansas State baseball (21-29-1, 7-19-1 SBC) battled early against Southern Miss (34-17, 18-9 SBC), but ultimately fell by a score of 14-6 in the home finale on Sunday afternoon at Tomlinson Stadium.
     
    Dylan Heine made his 13th start of the season, allowing five runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out three more over 3.2 innings pitched. On the flip side, Jared Toler and Brandon Hager recorded their first home runs of the season in their final home game as Red Wolves.
     
    Southern Miss jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opening frame, beginning with an RBI-double from Slade Wilks. Davis Gillespie added the next two runs after firing a grounder up the middle for a single.
     
    Toler recorded his first home run of the season in the second, sending a solo-shot to the scoreboard behind right field.
     
    The Golden Eagles responded with two runs in the top of the third on an RBI-single from Matthew Russo and a sacrifice fly from Jacob Keys as the Red Wolves trailed by four runs.
     
    Cason Campbell scored on a throwing error in the bottom frame before Hager launched a two-run shot to left field. Campbell and Wil French added two more runs in the fourth, putting A-State ahead 6-5.
     
    Southern Miss scored five runs in the fifth, beginning with Nick Monistere scoring on a fielder’s choice. A two-run triple from Ozzie Pratt was followed with a two-run round-tripper from Wilks to put the Red Wolves behind by four runs.
     
    The Golden Eagles delivered the final blow in the ninth, putting up four runs on two singles, a double, and a home run to finish off a 14-6 victory. Kros Silvey (3-5) earned the win and Chandler Best claimed a three-inning save while Hunter Draper (2-3) took the loss.
     
    NEXT UP
    Arkansas State travels to the bayou for the final series of the season against ULM. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 16 at Lou St. Amant Field. The series can be viewed on ESPN+ and can be heard on 95.3/96.9 The Ticket Radio Network along with the A-State Red Wolves mobile app.
