JONESBORO, Ark. (3/15/25) – Arkansas State baseball (8-10, 1-1 SBC) fell behind early and could not recover in a 12-2 defeat against Marshall (11-8, 1-1 SBC) on Saturday afternoon at Tomlinson Stadium-Slayton Family Field.
Jack Nelson (1-1) made his fifth start of the season, surrendering four runs (all earned) on six hits while striking out one batter over 3.1 innings pitched. As a team, the Scarlet and Black surrendered 15 hits but did not record an error in the contest.
At the plate, seven batters recorded one hit, with Kaden Amundson and Cross Jumper batting in both runs.
The Thundering Herd jumped out to a one-run lead in the first inning following a single through the left side, but an RBI-groundout from Amundson in the bottom of the second tied the game. The third inning saw no runs scored, but momentum shifted away from the Scarlet and Black in the fourth.
Marshall tallied six runs in the top frame and added three more one inning later, resulting in a 10-1 advantage going into the sixth. The Thundering Herd scored two runs in the seventh before Jumper batted in the second run of the evening on a groundout in the next frame.
The third out would be recorded before another run could score, putting the run-rule into effect. Griffin Miller (3-0) earned the win while Nelson took the loss.
