STATESBORO, Ga. (4/18/25) – Despite recording three runs in the ninth, the deficit was too much for Arkansas State baseball (18-20, 8-9 SBC), falling 6-3 against Georgia Southern (22-17, 8-9 SBC) on Friday night at J.I. Clements Stadium.
Kole Turner (1-5) made his fourth start of the season, surrendering five runs (all earned) on eight hits and four walks while striking out one over 4.0 innings pitched. Tyler Weimer and Dawson Hargrove entered in relief, allowing four hits and one earned run combined over the final 4.0 innings of action.
At the plate, Patrick Engskov (2-for-3) and Daedrick Cail (2-for-3) led the team in hits, combining for half of the team’s total on the evening. Cason Campbell led the team in RBIs, accounting for all three with a home run in the ninth inning.
The Eagles struck in the second inning with a solo home run, and followed it with a two-run double in the third. A single to right center in the next inning added two more runs, making the score 5-0.
The deficit maxed out at six following an RBI-fielder’s choice in the bottom of the seventh.
Campbell recorded his first home run of the 2025 campaign to make the score 6-3 with two outs in the ninth, but a flyout in the next at-bat erased hopes of a third consecutive comeback victory. Kade Grundy (5-4) earned the win while Turner took the loss.
