JONESBORO, Ark. (7/27/22) – After the Arkansas State baseball program registered a 3.01 grade-point average for the 2021-22 academic year, the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) honored the program once again with a Team Academic Excellence Award presented by Sports Attack on Wednesday.
The American Baseball Coaches Association has a long tradition of recognizing the achievements of baseball coaches and student-athletes. The ABCA/Rawlings All-America Teams are the nation’s oldest, founded in 1949, and the ABCA’s awards program also includes the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Awards, the ABCA/Diamond Regional & National Coaches of the Year and several other major awards such as the ABCA Hall of Fame and the Ethics in Coaching Award.
Teams from every level of college and high school baseball were honored with the award, which recognizes teams coached by ABCA members that posted a GPA of over 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for the 2021-22 academic year. Over 250 high school programs are more than 420 collegiate programs were recognized this year.
The Red Wolves joined Georgia State and former league counterpart Little Rock as the only three schools from the Sun Belt Conference in 2021-22 on the list. Southern Miss, which began its membership in the conference on July 1, was also honored among the 113 Division-I programs.
A-State has earned ABCA Team Academic Excellence Awards three years in a row, as well as six of the last seven dating back to 2015-16.
