MARICOPA, Ariz. (3/31/25) – With second round play suspended due to darkness at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes, the Arkansas State men’s golf team stands eighth among 23 teams at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic.

The Red Wolves turned in an opening round 7-under par 281 and is scored at even-par through 15 holes in the second round with play suspended. Iowa State leads the field at 23-under par followed by Long Beach (-21), Pacific (-16), San Diego (-15), Grand Canyon (-12), Wichita State (-12) and Southern Cal (-11). Kansas (-6), Cal State Fullerton (-3), Utah State (-3), Wyoming (-2) and Utah Valley (-1) are also under par past the midway point of the second round.

Behind an opening round 4-under par 68, Jake Wallis is tied for fourth individually at 6-under par with four holes to play in the second round. Luke Gutschewski of Iowa State holds the individual lead at 11-under par followed closely by Charlie Forster (-10) and Alejando De Castro (-8) of Long Beach. Wallis is among four players tied for fourth at 6-under par.

Four of the five A-State golfers were par or better in the first round. Chris Somerfield carded a 2-under par 70 on the opening round and is 1-over on the second round to sit tied for 34th thus far. Jake Lile was 1-under par to open play and is 1-over in the second to join Thomas Schmidt (72) at even-par and tied for 42nd. Jack Maxey finished up 2-over par in the first round and has totaled 5-over par to tie for 90th.
