CONWAY, Ark. (3/26/25) – Wil French opened the contest with a home run and Arkansas State baseball (11-13, 2-4 SBC) never looked back in a 12-2 rout of Central Arkansas (6-17, 1-5 ASUN) on Wednesday evening at Bear Stadium.
Cooper Garrison made his first career Division I start, surrendering two runs (all earned) on three hits while striking out two over 2.0 innings pitched. Four pitchers entered in relief for the Scarlet and Black, limiting the Bears to four hits over the final 5.0 innings thrown.
Four Red Wolves tallied multiple hits, with Ashton Quiller and Drake Anderson leading the way at three. French (2-for-4) and Kaden Amundson (2-for-4) led the team with three RBIs and a home run apiece.
French led off with a home run in the top of the first before the bases were eventually loaded with two outs. Anderson capitalized on the opportunity, firing a two-run single down the left-field line to cap the opening frame, making the score 3-0.
Central Arkansas mounted a response in the bottom of the second, cutting the deficit to one with a solo-home run and an RBI-single.
Action resumed in the fourth inning when French batted in Anderson and reached on a throwing error. With the bases loaded and one out, Cason Tollett fired a single through the right side and put two runs on the scoreboard.
Patrick Engskov cleared the remaining runners with an RBI-double before Amundson capped the top frame with an RBI-single, making the score 9-2. It was the third big inning consisting of four-or-more runs and nine-plus batters this season.
French knocked in his third RBI of the evening during the fifth, landing a single in right field and pushing the Scarlet and Black into double digits.
Amundson crushed a two-run homer, his first of the season, to left field in the top of the seventh and put the contest into run-rule territory. The Bears went down in order during the bottom frame, ending the game and securing the Red Wolves’ the first road win of the season.
Jelle van der Lelie (1-1) earned the win while Luke Lorence (0-1) took the loss.
