JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (3/2/25) – Arkansas State baseball (3-9, 0-0 SBC) battled for 12 innings against Jacksonville State (10-2, 0-0 CUSA), but ultimately fell in a 7-6 decision on Sunday evening at Jim Case Stadium.
Jack Hibbard made the start for A-State, surrendering five runs (all earned) on six hits while striking out two over 4.0 innings pitched. Kole Turner also threw in 4.0 innings, allowing four hits and striking out two while holding the Gamecocks scoreless.
Wil French, Cason Tollett, and Patrick Engskov all recorded a home run in the contest, and Engskov ended the day two runs scored plus an RBI on three hits.
French and Tollett delivered a pair of solo homers in the first inning to put the Red Wolves ahead 2-0. Two frames passed before Jacksonville State put runs on the board, adding two with a home run to right center.
With two outs in the fourth, Raul Torres fired an RBI-single to right center before Kaden Amundson crossed the plate on a balk. The Gamecocks claimed their first lead of the game in the next frame, scoring on a sacrifice fly and two fielder’s choices to make the score 5-4.
The Scarlet and Black tied the contest in the top of the seventh when Daedrick Cail ripped a single into right field. Neither team would score in the eighth and ninth innings, forcing the contest into extras.
A-State broke the stalemate when Engskov fired a 384-foot missile to the soccer field behind left, but the Gamecocks scored two including a walk-off single to end the game. Maddox McDougall (1-0) earned the win while Cooper Garrison (0-2) took the loss.
