NORFOLK, Va. (2/20/25) – Arkansas State women’s basketball (17-9, 13-2 SBC) fought for four quarters against Old Dominion (15-13, 9-6 SBC), but ultimately fell short in a 95-88 defeat on Thursday afternoon at Chartway Arena.

Four Red Wolves reached double figures, but Anna Griffin was the lone 20-point scorer with 23 in the contest. As a team, A-State shot 28-for-58 (48.3 percent) from the floor, 7-for-20 (35 percent) from beyond the arc, and 25-for-33 (75.8 percent) from the free throw line.

Both sides exchanged shots to open the game before the Monarchs opened a 13-6 advantage with 4:08 to go. The Red Wolves did not convert a three-pointer in the quarter, allowing the deficit to reach 11 before settling at 24-15 going into the second.

The deficit closed to three after a three-point play from Crislyn Rose was followed with the Red Wolves’ first triple from Shaunae Brown. After Old Dominion extended their lead to six, four-straight free throws from Bella Weary and a layup from Kennedie Montue tied the game at 29-29 with 5:35 to go.

The Monarchs responded with a 7-0 run, but the Scarlet and Black netted 14 of the final 21 points and tied the game at 43-43 with a triple from Anna Griffin as the first half concluded. A-State shot 13-for-26 (50 percent) from the floor, 3-for-7 (42.9 percent) from deep, and 14-for-16 (87.5 percent) from the charity stripe in the first half.

A-State surrendered a 13-5 run over the first six minutes of the third before falling behind 62-51 with 2:17 to go. The Monarchs took advantage of multiple fast break opportunities, putting the Red Wolves behind by 12 going into the final quarter of action.

After cutting the deficit to seven with 8:47 to go, 10 of the next 12 points would go to Old Dominion. The Scarlet and Black mounted one final rally attempt with a 13-4 run at the 5:12 mark, but the Monarchs’ advantage was too much to overcome.
