STARKVILLE, Miss. (2/2/25) – Arkansas State women’s tennis battled hard in doubles and got a straight-set win by freshman Lilly Cvanciger, but ultimately dropped a 4-1 decision at Mississippi State Sunday inside the Rula Tennis Pavilion.
A-State (4-3) took the Bulldogs (6-0) to the brink in doubles, with Courts 1 and 3 both going to a set tiebreaker to decide the point. Cvanciger won her second straight singles match, her third in the last four outings.
MSU’s Maria Rizzolo and Carolina Troiano topped Cvanciger and Abigail Thurmer in a close 6-4 decision on Court 2. The Bulldogs then clinched the point when Gianna Oboniye and Athina Pitta won 7-6(2) over Anna Grigoreva and Carla Muro Castellvi on Court 1.
At the time the point was clinched, A-State’s duo of Sarah Millard and Hanmare McAslin were deadlocked at 4-all in the set tiebreaker with MSU’s Jayna Clemens and Chiara Di Genova on Court 3.
