FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (5/23/24) – A personal-best performance by Arkansas State track and field thrower Selase Sampram on Thursday at the NCAA West Prelims ended in a successful bid into the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the women’s shot put.
Sampram punched her ticket to nationals on her third and final attempt, tossing the implement a personal-best 17.13m (56-2.5). She finished 10th overall and is one of 12 competitors from the West Region to advance to Eugene.
The Wylie, Texas, native is A-State’s first NCAA Championships qualifier in the women’s shot put since Erin Farmer in 2017. She is slated to compete at approximately 9:40 p.m. CT on Thursday, June 6, at Hayward Field.
Michelle Ogbemudia also competed, placing 31st with a top throw of 15.97m (52-4.75).
The Red Wolves conclude action in Fayetteville Friday with an adjusted schedule due to forecasted inclement weather later in the day. Menachem Chen will compete in the men’s discus at 10 a.m., while Colby Eddowes runs in the 110-meter hurdles quarterfinals at 3:15 p.m.
