NASHVILLE, Tenn./DES MOINES, Iowa/MONROE, La. (4/26/24) – Menachem Chen won the men’s discus throw on Friday to highlight a busy day for the Arkansas State track and field teams across a trio of meets.
Chen hurled the implement 54.39m (178-5) to lead four Red Wolves in the top five in the event at the Music City Challenge. Noa Isaia was runner-up with a throw of 51.81m (169-11), with Chris Boyd (50.45m/165-6) and Willem Coertzen (50.03m/164-1) finishing fourth and fifth.
Liya Guy finished seventh in the women’s discus with a mark of 43.66m (143-3) while Nyaluet Diew threw 34.05m (111-8).
In the men’s 800 meters at the Drake Relays, Hannes Fahl clocked a season-best 1:49.04 to finish second overall.
Zeke McCain ran a personal-best 4:05.70 in the 1500 meters in Nashville, finIshing third in Section D, while Benny Brenneman clocked a time of 4:02.82 to place 11th in his section.
Abbey Coberly ran a career-best 4:44.67 in the women’s 1500, with Anna Hunter (4:54.81) and Maggie Hunter (5:00.02) recorded season-best marks.
A trio of Red Wolves – Delaney Mulick (10:22.83), Cadence Lapp (10:29.38) and Maddie Haldiman (11:11.07) clocked career bests in the women’s 3000 meters, while Rylan Brown ran a personal-best 8:47.76 in the men’s 3K. Ryan Parson placed fourth with a finish of 8:32.06 while Coleman Wilson was 10th, crossing in 8:51.67.
The night in Nashville concluded with the 5000 meters, as Olivia Walter (18:14.01) and Sophey Pope (19:24.58) registered career-best times in the women’s race. Nati Enright placed eighth with a season-best 14:56.24 in section A of the men’s event, while Dawson Mayberry (15:00.32) placed 11th. In section B, freshman Matthew Dunsworth was second with a time of 15:29.57.
Madison Holloway hurled a collegiate-best 34.46m (113-1) in the javelin, while placing third in the long jump with a wind-aided leap of 5.78m (18-11.75).
Matthew Williams jumped a wind-aided 7.00m (22-11.75) in the men’s long jump, placing ninth, and Amarrion Reese was 14th with a mark of 6.88m (22-7).
At the Warhawk Classic in Monroe, Izzy Daines placed 11th in the women’s long jump with a wind-aided mark of 5.29m (17-4.25).
In Nashville, Lizzee Winkler placed 17th in the women’s steeplechase, finishing in 12:05.17. Andrew Mason was 18th in the men’s race with a time of 9:58.79.
Hanyla Milligan and Je’Breiya Chapman competed in the women’s 200 meters at Vanderbilt, finishing in 25.58 and a personal-best 26.01, respectively. Mehki Hoo (22.75) and CJ Burge (22.85) ran in the men’s race, placing 33rd and 34th.
